Before You Purchase a Single Supplement, Read This!

Are you trying to major in the minors? In other words, are you becoming consumed with things that have little benefit to your health while ignoring the major players of good health? Let's dive in and talk about this idea in terms of supplements.

The supplement industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. With so many different supplements on the market, all touting huge health and fitness benefits, it can be really confusing to know what's actually helpful and what's not.

To make matters worse, the supplement industry is wildly unregulated. Although some supplements can be beneficial for certain people, let's break down the facts.

Unless you have a deficiency diagnosed by a medical doctor, supplements aren't necessarily mandatory for good health. Whenever we talk about building a good foundation of health, we need to zoom out and look at the BIG picture. Don't major in the minors.

Here are 6 things to do BEFORE you get bogged down in navigating the supplement industry:

  1. Make sure you are hitting adequate protein intake for your age and lifestyle

  2. Incorporate multiple servings of fruits and veggies each day

  3. Eat a wide range of colors each day

  4. Reduce the amount of processed foods you eat each day

  5. Engage in regular, joyful movement

  6. Prioritize sleep and stress management

Sounds simple, right? But as a Fitness and Nutrition Coach, I see the same thing all the time: most people want to supplement their way to good health instead of focusing on these main pillars of good health.

No supplement will be able to make up for deficiencies in these 6 areas.

My advice? Save your money and invest in these 6 steps if you want to change your life.

Once you've mastered these 6 steps, you're ready to begin researching what (if any) supplements are right for you!
